Energy & Utilities
A well-developed and secure energy supply is an important prerequisite for a modern society’s ability to function. Therefore, the sector is characterised by a degree of government regulation. However in recent years, in order to increase competitiveness in the sector, the energy market has undergone significant liberalisation.
This liberalisation has meant that the individual energy customer now has greater influence when it comes to choosing a supplier. At the same time, it has led to a restructuring of the industry as a whole. In Denmark and other European countries, a new division of roles in the supply chain has been introduced and the increased competition has resulted in a number of mergers.
The need for efficient use and management of company assets is greater than ever, and liberalisation on the customer’s side has necessitated the introduction of new requirements for effective marketing, price-setting, settlement and ongoing customer care.
Segmenta combines a profound understanding of the industry and SAP
Segmenta has several years’ experience in the implementation of industry-specific SAP solutions for the energy and utility sector. Segmenta cooperates with the biggest Danish energy companies and has competences in every aspect of the supply chain (generation – trading - transmission – distribution – retail).
Segmenta's cooperation with the sector on the use of SAP and the Industry Solution (SAP Utility) has given it an in-depth understanding of the business and insight into the challenges the sector faces. Today, SAP covers all the essential business processes in a modern energy and utility company and, globally, it is the leading solution in the market with some of the world's biggest and most innovative energy companies as reference customers.
SAP ERP now represents the core element of a number of energy companies' IT solution and it is also used to support the standard processes of financial management, logistics, HR as well as fixed asset management, operation and maintenance of power production facilities and distribution/transmission. Some of the leading Danish energy companies have chosen SAP as their preferred solution in the ERP area.
With regard to the implementation of electronic meters and the possibility of hourly readings for template customers, it is expected that the demands made on settlement systems will increase significantly due to the huge amounts of data involved. Few systems on the market – including SAP Utility - are expected to be able to cope with these increased demands.
The use of SAP and consequently Segmenta's solutions for a company varies, depending on where in the supply chain the company is situated. At the start of the supply chain, there are few, but major, customers and the focus is on establishment and operation of technical systems for production and transport. At the end of the supply chain there are many customers (typically several hundred thousand) and, here, the focus is on customer service, settlement and management of the supplier to the individual customer (liberalised market).
Utility companies running SAP IS-U as their core IT system face the daily challenge of controlling their debtors. Segmenta has developed an add-on to SAP which solves this problem. The product is owned and marketed by KMD International, while Segmenta takes care of maintenance and development of the product.
